I've been trying to decide if I want to continue doing the Brenda Photo Challenges. Several years ago I was "challenged" by Miz Brenda to Get Off My Butt and Get Out There! As a new blogger I was enchanted by her photos and even though she was working full time and raising a family, she still found time to see the world around her through the lens of her camera. She has always been SO encouraging...hence...the Brenda Photo Challenge Blog.
Well, as time has moved on, so have we all. I'm busier than ever as I know you are. But! I AM now out there and learning as much as I can about photography. I LOVE it! SO...the short and sweet of it is, I'm done. I have enjoyed the challenges, and I have appreciated YOUR participation IN them, SO much! I have learned SO much from You! ...I would Love to be able to just play along for a change!Hahaa....Thank you Brenda for my start. Everything I've done since then was because you sat beside me in spirit, reminding me to CARRY YOUR CAMERA EVERYWHERE GIRL!!!...Hahahaa...Now the GOOD NEWS is....drumroll Please! BRENDA will now be continueing the Brenda Photo Challenges!! I just heard from her and she's excited about doing them!!! I'll let y'all know the NEW BLOG ADDRESS as soon as I get it!! I'll post it on this blog as SOON as I know all the details!!

The Brenda Photo Challenge (9-4-10) Photo Essay

Hello Everyone! Iknow, I know...I'm late! August has been a Crazy Month for me! About the time I get One thing taken care of...Another pops up! Geez!!Lolol....SO Anyway, we all really enjoyed the last Challenge! Thanks Crystal for the Theme, Dirt! But it's now time to move forward with the NEXT Theme! It is presented by The Brenda Photo Challenge's Inspiration, Brenda of What's Up Down South. This is something a Bit different. I think a bit more challenging. I'll let you read her email to me. I think she explains it best:

Donna,
I wanted to tell you about something I've been pondering and mulling over for the challenge. This could be done in two weeks or we could use a longer time frame in which to prepare (I actually think allowing only 2 weeks would make it even more interesting though).
My idea is to do a Photo Essay for the challenge. What do you think?

Some information on Photo Essays: A photo essay (or "photographic essay") is a set or series of photographs that are intended to tell a story or evoke a series of emotions in the viewer.
A photo essay will often show pictures in deep emotional stages.
Photo essays range from purely photographic works to photographs with captions or small notes to full text essays with a few or many accompanying photographs.
Choose anything that can be tied together by the sum of its parts, but not something so big that it becomes overwhelming. For example, you could create a photo essay about your home, your city, the local zoo, a person, or an event. Limit yourself to telling your story using fewer than 8 to 10 pictures.
An example of a wonderful essayist that I've enjoyed over and over again was Walker Evans, I know you've seen his work here and there. He published a photo essay in the form of a book about the Great Depression. It was awesome!

But now it's on to the LAST Challenge (on the 2 week schedule), brought to us by Brenda of What's Up Down South...The Very Lady that I named this Blog after...She Challenged me to get out there and work harder to get BETTER photos and I Have tried, but in SO many ways, I feel I have let her down...I've let ME down... Being lazy is NO Excuse...Too tired, The dog needs a bath...I feel a headache coming on...My left toenail is green...Johnny Depp came for a visit last night...Hahaa....Don't we ALL dream of THE PERFECT PHOTO? THE...ONE?? I know I DO! SO, Brenda, I'm going to REALLY Try to do it right! I don't care if it's a photo of a pear...I want it to be the BEST pear it can be!

Thank you Joy, from ShutterShy, for hosting our last Challenge!! It was great fun and Colorful! Joy has now asked Cindra, of Knits & Pics, to host our Next Challenge but I'll let her tell you about it!

Here are the instructions in Cindra's own words:

The new theme is to take an existing photo and change it through photo editing software. Try to make it different, better, more focused, a different color… whatever you choose to do, be creative and have fun. You will need to post the before and after. For those of you who don’t have a photo editing program, there is Gimp, which is free. It is a great program and capable of doing many/most of the things that Adobe Photoshop Elements can do. I will be posting more tutorials and Donna has volunteered to supply some, too. For those that need help, just leave a comment and we will try and assist. Please have fun with this. Later today I will be posting a tutorial on how to create the subtle spot light effect. In the meantime, start checking out some of your photos and deciding which ones you are going to play with. The posting day will be Saturday, March 7th. Have fun!
Here is the link to the Gimp download for those who will be needing it. Brenda also recommends paint which is downloadable free right here. I am going to have to check that one out, too.

Alright now! Lets see if this blog will work! The participants are Growing by leaps and bounds each time we have a challenge! SO, to save everyone some time and space on their Own blogs (the list can get pretty long), I've created this blog just for the Challenge! If this works like it Should, then, we each can take all those names off and go back to a cleaner blog... It Should be simple to use...When the next challenge rolls around, just come Here and leave your name and or URL, by simply leaving a comment!
